Comics have been a rarity in Pakistan. There are some young enthusiasts who love to read comics but they mostly just stick to the all-known DC classics. However, there is competition in town now! CFx Comics is a Pakistani startup that is bringing writers, artists and creators together, and providing them a platform to tell their tales for all to hear and read.
Mustafa Hasnain is the founder of the Creative Frontiers, which is a creative agency that focuses on creating social impact. He came up with this idea in 2013 and since then has been working hard to get this company to the center stage in the industry. CFx is essentially a part of his company. The first comic series that came out was about a religious extremist society. Pasbaan was the name given to this series as it suited the story really well. Pasbaan was later translated to Urdu as well so the masses could read and understand it. Pasbaan did really well and this gave the team of CFx confidence to pursue their passion.
The company is introducing five new comics that confront every day, modern matters. The ‘Comics for Peace’ series will be one of a kind as it is especially catered to the Pakistani audience. The best part about this series is that it is created by university students, for university students. Through these comics, these students highlighted social issues that they cared about. From discrimination, hate, violence to extremism, they used the graphic medium to tell stories that could resonate with Pakistanis from all around the world. CFx aims to create a market for comics. While money is an important factor when you’re running a business, it is not the only thing the company is looking it.
