Auratnaak comedy troupe is coming to Lahore on 14 and 15 February!

In 2016, a group of women came together and formed the Auratnaak Movement. This is a women centric standup comedy that gets everyone laughing. It has come a long way since its humble beginnings and it is getting better every year.  The Auratnaak troupe includes a range of performance. The individuals that take up the stage belong from different walks of life and bring with them their experiences. These experiences are then delivered in the most comedy way possible. The unique stories are new for the audience. The movement has gathered a group of loyal followers around the world.

In a country such as Pakistan where patriarchy is a big issue, the women who lead the Auratnaak movement are breaking the stereotypes. They want the public to realize that the attitudes that form the basis of our society are corrupt. They favor men and deny women their basic rights. They limit the freedom of a woman who wants to work and make a career. The creativity of this movement lies with the multi-talented Hassaan Bin Shaheen and Fatema Shah. The main themes that are highlighted in this platform include; body shaming, stigma around mental illness, conforming to social norms and other such issues, which we would not talk about normally.

Auratnaak is not just a comedic movement to get people to laugh. It is a movement that empowers women and gives them a chance to talk about their issues in a light and humorous manner. Such movements unite women and give them a platform to stand together and share their worries and problems. Together we can do so much that we cannot achieve individually.
