Beware: PTA disabling the smuggled phones soon and your phone could be one of them.

We all were going about our normal life, the daily routine. Everything was fine until people suddenly received this text from PTA.

PTA is actually working against the phones that have fake IMEI and are operating illegally around the country. IMEI can be used by PTA to track down lost or stolen phones. The phones with fake IMEI are usually stolen. Therefore, this is a positive measure by PTA to track down the stolen phones and render them useless if they are not returned to the original user. This measure will help reduce the theft of phones and is for your own good.
(as long as you are yourself not a theif)

To register your phone’s IMEI to PTA and to make sure your phone is not the one of the those which will be blocked on 20th October, you must SMS your IMEI number to 8484. You can check your phone’s IMEI by dialing *#06#.
PTA will confirm if your phone is compliant or not.

Fawad Chaudhary, Information Minister of Pakistan, announced on 11th October,2018 that, “By this year’s end, smuggled phones in the country will stop being operational.”
