Elizabeth Rai: Singing Her Passion, Music In Her Veins

Elizabeth Rai began her official career as a singer in 2010. Although, she faced several challenges at the beginning of her journey. But with the passion for singing in her heart, she kept moving forward. She got selected in the Alhamra Unplugged Season 1 in 2015 and from there on she took steps towards success. Recently, she sang ‘Dildar Sadqay’ alongside Jawad Ahmad in the Coke Studio Season 11, Episode 9. Elizabeth Rai has been praised by her fans for her sweet voice and they believe that no one can stop her from being the new sensation of singing in Pakistan.
We asked Elizabeth Rai some quick round of questions about how she came to singing and what inspired her, and she happily responded.
What brought you into the world of singing and music?
My father brought singing into my life. He had a choir and I used to get inspired by it and would sing in his choir.
Since when are you singing? Was it a passion from childhood or it slowly developed after?
It was a passion from childhood.
Who or what would you call your biggest inspiration?
I would say my father, and after that Lata Jee, who inspired me at every step of my journey.
Can you tell us something about how you learned about singing and music?
I learned a lot about singing by myself. But after I joined singing as a profession, I learned from almost everyone along the way.
How was the feeling when you performed before a crowd for the first time?
I was a bit nervous. But after a while, it felt okay because of the love the crowd showed.
How has your experience been in Coke Studio and coming on a single platform along with Jawad Ahmed, one of the biggest musical sensations in Pakistan?
It was amazing. The whole team was supportive and helped me polish myself. And at the same time, it felt magical that how I used to listen to Jawad Ahmed’s songs in my childhood and now I was singing alongside him. It was an experience I can’t explain.
Are there any singers that you idealize?
Lataa jee, Madam Noor Jahan, and Shreya Ghoshal.
What does singing mean to you?
In simple words, it means the world to me. It is my first love, and passion.
Is there any best memory you have about singing?
It was the first time when my song was released by a well-known platform of the movie, ‘Teri meri love story’. I can’t describe the feeling.
Singing has never been an easy career to follow for anyone. What advice would you give to the newcomers who wish to be the new musical sensations of Pakistan like you are?
I would suggest that they stay focused. Practice and perfect your art. And pray for the best.
