Facebook – the company behind the most downloaded apps of this decade
If you are living in 2019, you are bound to have a Facebook account. Facebook started with a very humble beginning but quickly grew into one of the most famous social media apps of this decade. It helped people from all around the world connect with each other and communicate much easily and cheaply than before. Facebook started the concept of staying online. Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of this app, is now the owner of four of the most downloaded apps of this decade. Facebook, Facebook messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram are all the hype and without them, life is just not the same.
Facebook bought Instagram in 2012 for $1bn (£760m) and WhatsApp in 2014 for $19bn. Each of these platforms has more than one billion users. While it is surprising to understand that there is one company behind all of this data, it is much scarier to think that all your information is going to one end user. Critics have analyzed these apps and have said that this monopoly can only be categorized as a data monopoly. One security breach and everything will be lost. Another aspect to all this data gathering is how precise these apps can get in guessing our personality and lifestyle traits. If you are giving one sort of information on Instagram and giving another information on Facebook, the apps can combine to find the middle path that can define you.
While it is fun to update statuses and stay connected all the time, one should sit down and think about all the problems that can come with using all sorts of social media apps. Try to keep your personal life off social media and meet people in real rather than virtually.
