Fireside Chat with ‘Bayaan’
Tell us a little about the band and each of you?
The band was formed back in 2015. Most of us had met during jam sessions for a music show and became friends. One thing led to another and we decided to produce a song together. The song was Nahin Milta and by the time we finished the song, we were Bayaan.
Asfar – Vocals – A musicology graduate and current visiting faculty at NCA hailing from Chitral.
Haider – Bass – LUMS grad and overall shady guy.
Mansoor – Drums – Chai lover, entrepreneur, probably has ADD
Muqueet – Guitars – Apple fanatic and a human dynamo, always full of energy
Shahrukh – Guitars – An odd mix of grumpy and goofy
How would you describe your music and its philosophy?
Our music is somewhere between pop rock and progressive with shades of Eastern classical. It’s a little hard to pick a label because we all listen to different kinds of music and pretty much do whatever we want. The philosophy of the music is the same, really. We talk about whatever we want to talk about; some of it is deeply personal, some of it is universal. As long as we’re being honest, we’re happy.

Where do you find the inspiration for your music?
The worlds around us, the micro and the macro, provide plenty of material.
What’s the story behind the band’s name?
The name echoes what we want to do: speak. It took us quite a bit of time when coming up with a name. We kept fighting over it and many many options were brought up. Ultimately, we set a hard deadline in which all candidate names were submitted and then we voted. Bayaan won.
How was the Pepsi Battle of Bands experience and how did it groom you?
An absolutely relentless train ride with no stops and no brakes! It was a privilege to meet and hang out with so many crazy talented bands and get feedback from industry veterans. It definitely tightened up our rehearsal style.

One fun fact about each of you?
Asfar LOVES biryani
If you want to troll Muqueet, say something bad about Steve Jobs
Because of Fawad Khan, everyone calls Haider “Enrique” now
Shahrukh can pretty much complain about anything
What are you currently working on and when can we see some new music?
We are currently finishing up our debut album. There’s a new music video right around the corner and the album comes out as soon as we’re done!
How do you want the world to remember you?
As a group of friends who made good music and survived a world that seems to breed more bitterness than joy.
