A trend started last year by the World Soccer Stars is happening again this year. Famous football stars including Brazil’s Ricardo Kaka, Luis Figo of Portugal, Spain’s Carles Puyol and Nicolas Anelka of France are to visit Pakistan on November 9 and 10 for a special match. Local players are expected to team up with these legends to play a match in Lahore. The stars will also visit Karachi and meet their fans.
“The legends will lock horns in a showcase tour featuring players from within Pakistan,” said one of the organizers, adding that Pakistani players were “shortlisted from a talent hunt road show earlier this year”. The streamlined process of selection allowed different players to participate in matches and show their talent on the field. The matches were open for all players and anyone could participate. Teams have been preparing for this match since April but due to financial constraints, the match was postponed. Puyol and Kaka expressed their excitement in coming to Pakistan once again, remembering their visit last year. Kaka also expressed his excitement over the tour. “My visit in January was a memorable one and I want to be a part of the sport’s launch in the country,” he said.
Such events are a great way to attract the youth to participate in more sports activities and also to improve the image of Pakistan internationally. Among the tumbling political scenario of the country, this match will represent hope and a strong future for the youth in Pakistan. If you are a football enthusiast and want to support the organizers in their venture to promote football in the country, do buy the tickets and go watch the match. It is sure to be a thrilling and exciting game.
