What inspired you to enter the world of music? How was the band formed?
Music is what drives us and it has been like that for all of us since the beginning, for each of us music and creating it has a special place in our hearts and that’s what keeps us going. And as far as the band is concerned all of our paths met differently, Bilawal Lahooti and Omair Farooq were already playing together in a band named Overdose, they later were joined by me (Sherry Khattak). We released a few songs, then later on moved to Lahore and changed our name to Karakoram. It was later joined by Zain Perzada and Annan Noukhez.
Why the name ‘Karakoram’ ? Is there a story behind it?
Although it may seem an easy question but for us this is the most trickiest question to answer, since we had nothing in mind while we were naming it, we just needed to switch from Overdose, and as funny as it may sound we just knew that we had to name it something that start’s with K, just because we founded a cool written K in Russian during a flight on a lunch tray.
Where does the band draws inspirations from?
From wherever we can, all of us individually have different and common inspirations, and that’s what makes a band a “Band”, each having a different approach and background hence an interesting mix.
Tell us a song that best describes you?
I feel Toofaan defines us the most, since we all have a storm brewing inside of us and we take that out in our songs.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Can’t say. It’s hard to narrow us down in three words. I guess that’s a good question for our audience.
What would be your dream collaboration with any musician?
We love collaborations and we believe that it plays a major role for a musician’s vocabulary and maturity. We would love to collaborate with anyone from whom we can learn and in the end create good music.
What is the most rock star thing the whole band has done?
Nothing to date, Haha
The best memory about any musical gig you performed?
Though we haven’t performed a lot of gigs, we started performing before this pandemic hit us, but a few gigs that we did, we all would agree that LMM (Lahore Music Meet) gig was one the most memorable one.
What’s next on bucket list of “Karakoram”?
We are fully focused on two agendas, one is the album which we are almost done with, the other is a live stream concert that we’ll be announcing real soon.
