Living in a country like Pakistan where transgender have to go through very tough ordeals to make a living, we welcome Hina Gul. She lives in her own house in a small part of town and she makes the most beautiful handicrafts you have ever seen. From dolls to beaded bottles and everything else, she uses her artistic abilities to come up with extraordinary designs and patterns. Her interest in handicrafts began when she was only ten years old. She would participate in all drawing competitions held in school and would win first prizes every time. Her teachers were skeptical of how she managed to make such intricate crafts but they soon realized it was a natural talent.
Formerly a dancer, Hina has vowed to change her life and earn good money by these handicrafts. She puts up stalls at local festivals and people come and buy her items. She has had a very good record of selling all that she takes to these festivals. This has given her confidence to turn her passion into a proper business. She is waiting for help from the government or an NGO working for transgender to help set up a boutique where she can work full time.
Hina knows the struggles that her transgender community faces. She has commented on how talented her fellows are but they have no opportunities to come forth and show their talent and earn money. They have to resort to dancing, singing, and begging on the streets because that is their only way of survival. She hopes that things will change soon and the community will get its rights. Every individual has a right to feel safe and earn in a safe way as well.
