All these Azaadi marches and Islamabad hostilites are still not azaad enough to roam around after 10 pm without parental permission. While I am sad about these restrictions, there is a matter that saddens me even more. Yes, even more than watching the underpaid FoodPanda and Careem riders pass my house and go in the completely wrong direction. No Kamran, slow down. Let me help you Kamran. How did we end up here, Kamran? I only wanted my wings and tikka roll. The baby bird in me is dying, Kamran!
I can cry over food later, as I am wont to do. But as I see the media circus around the globe surrounding the carnages in the wake of barbarianism, I miss a part of my psyche. I miss truths that remain truth after checking the accuracy. I miss correct statements unbothered by the million of ironic layers and poiltical manueverings. I miss simple truths. I miss oppressors being called out without the victims being gaslit. Is that too much to ask for, Kamran?
Between the new Coldplay songs and the new coke studio episode, I am confused if I should even miss truths. As my personal muse, Fela Kuti said; “Music is the weapon of the future”. But if music is the weapon, truths are the klaxons that signal the impending battles.
My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains my sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk, Or emptied some dull opiate to the drains. Or maybe I miss facts in my life. Beautiful, simple, truthful facts I could accept with no compunctions at all. My life is incomplete as if some fundamental truths are missing. I know I made many mistakes, facts! But please forgive me! I swear I’ll do better next time. I won’t ignore you. I won’t make a big mess of things. I’ll be good. I won’t leave my dirty laundry on the floor and my conscience in the back pocket. I’ll be candid. Cross my heart and sign my own death warrant!
