Much Ado About Ahad and Ehds
“Not an Alpha Bravo Charlie Reboot” should be the official tagline of Hum TV’s new sunday night attraction. With four episodes under its belt, old might not be the best description either. The drama was unveiled with sky-high expectations and a star-cast which in many’s opinions had the “Humayun Saeed” factor. Too old to play college students might be the only complaint about the actors, as they have played their roles brilliantly up until now. The lack is apparent in the writing and the direction. The jokes fall flat and the rushed “to-the-future” sequence is average at best. In short, not the presentation one would expect from the brand of Momina Duraid.
Aside from the four lead actors, there is nothing much to talk about. Vaneeza Ahmed’s comeback was an attraction for as many prospective viewers as Ahad Raza Mir’s mere presence. To their dismay, her character is lackluster and any chance at its redemption is squandered. There is no established female lead in the drama and the two actresses cast as the romantic interests have barely enough screen time to truly shine. With the hype and anticipation that led to this point, I am sad to say that the drama did not deliver.
An Alpha Bravo Charlie reboot might have been better for ISPR if the main goal behind this drama was to capitalize on the sacrifices made by our brave men in the forces. Yes, our army may have been in desperate need of good PR, but the attempt made by Ehd-e-Wafa seems forced and unnecessary. Intended or not, comparisons are drawn and “Aap iss qoum ki izzat hein aur humm iss ke muhafiz” beats every single scene of Ehd-e-wafa, Hands down! The only winning point is the dog, which let’s be honest, is the winning point of many crappy deals in the world.
