Parenting: From ‘Suno Beta’ to ‘Araay Yaar’

There was a time when people used to twist the antennas of TVs for hours just to watch a favorite show. Rewinding the audio cassettes with a pencil to save walk-man battery. Let’s fast forward the things to today. Now we have Youtube, Netflix, Smart TVs and everything work with just a swipe of a finger. As the technology advanced faster than we could understand it, so did the parenting. The young generation we see now is a lot different than that of the 80’s, and so are the parents. Here are some of the differences that parents experience today.
The new generation is more logical
The children in 80’s used to believe in the fairy tales. They believed that sand man comes at night and puts the sands of sleep in their eyes. But children these days demand a logical explanation for everything. You cannot tell a child that, ‘Jin Baba aa jaye ga’ and watch him panic all of a sudden. They don’t even believe that babies come from the skies anymore.
Parents are more open to their children
In the 80’s and prior to that, parents were strict and would enforce laws on children to keep them on track. And the children would obey their elders no matter what. ‘Abba ka har lafz sar ankhon par’.
But now, children know more than we think. They know about some of the laws, the rights, and are not that easy to be pushed around. Today, parents treat their children like friends, and children would share everything with their parents, even crack jokes with them.
Technology has made parenting easier
Although people do believe that technology is the reason that has ruined the new generation. It goes sort of like this:
You: Mom, my stomach hurts.
Mom: It is because you are always on that phone.
But let’s just face that technology has also helped the parents to keep a track of their children when they are out. With the help of phones and laptops, parents easily get to know the location of their children at all times and can contact to know about their well-being.
