Reality hits hard in this new Pakistani comic book – Reality Girl
Living in a society where it is tough to talk about social issues, Abbas Saleem Khan has taken a dive into one of the most sensitive issues, child abuse. Mr. Abbas is the founder of Optera Digital, a transmedia company focused on Perception Change and Management through Gamified Solutions, AR/VR Technologies and Data Optimized Content. Their campaign systems use a mix of traditional digital techniques blended with gamification, psychology, economics and user participation. It is this platform that gave Abbas the idea of creating a comic book, Reality Girl, that tackles and address the issues of child abuse.
The story starts with Sarah a girl who belongs to a well to do family. She is a social butterfly and attends parties every now and then. She loves going to the mall and spending time her friends. However, beneath all this, Sarah is a person who is very sympathetic. One day while she is out at a party, she sees a boy screaming for help. That night she cannot stop thinking about that boy and hence the next day she decides to do something about it. She puts on her gloves and becomes Reality Girl, a superhero who vows to protect homeless children.

The comic is beautifully illustrated and opens our eyes out to the realities of Pakistan. The children that we see on the street are not safe. They are running and hiding from monsters who do not care of their innocence. Using a comic book to address this issue is not only a brilliant idea, but also one that is effective. The studio is currently developing a final comic, to be launched later this year. For now, you can read Reality Girl on the comic’s website.
