Remembrance of 8th October, 2005 Earthquake

It has been 13 years since the unfortunate and devastating disaster occurred in Mansehra that took the lives of more than 100,000 people and rendered hundreds of thousands homeless. Most of the people belonged to poor families who did not had properly built houses. When the earthquake struck, their mud houses stood no chance against it and caved in on them.
The destruction was not only observed in Mansehra but also around the other villages in KPK. Reports of walls and roofs of houses collapsing were received in many of the villages of KPK.
The earthquake was reported to be of 7.6 magnitude in Richter scale. It left nothing but rubble of mud houses and trails of dead bodies. Over 3.5 million were dislocated as its result. It is considered as the deadliest earthquake to strike South Asia since 1935.
Pakistani nation rushed to help their brothers in KPK and aided them with whatever they thought was possible. A great demonstration of unity was displayed by this nation.
The entire world stood up for the sake of humanity and aided Pakistan as well.
13 years have passed since this unfortunate event but the scars caused by it still remain in the hearts of people. Which is why every year, 8th October is dedicated to the remembrance of the 2005 earthquake victims. Several memorials were held today, including the memorial at the Muzaffargarh University where a minute of silence was observed in the memory of the martyrs of this event. The business and shops remained close in Balakot and prayers were offered.
Let us observe a minute of silence for the martyrs of this event and pray that they may find peace. Ameen.
