Split the Plate – ‘Dastak’ Cooking Oil Gets Real In Its New Campaign
The buzz around the new social media advertisement uploaded by Dastak, a local cooking oil, has taken over the internet. What a beautiful ad that touches your soul and makes you rethink how we eat!
Split the Plate features an everyday scenario where a man brings lunch from his home to his white-collar job. His tea boy in the office serves him the food in a nice plate. However, each day, the man leaves some food in his plate. Eventually, the man catches the tea boy eating his leftover food and thanking God for it. This really moves the man and the next time he clearly splits the food in his plate in two parts. He eats one and leaves the other one untouched for the tea boy. Split the plate is a concept that addresses the issue we all contribute to – putting too much on our plates and wasting the food.
On World Food Day, this timely campaign garnered attention from a lot of Pakistanis because of its heartwarming message; we don’t even realize how a small gesture of sharing food can change someone’s life. Dastak has made a pledge to play its role in making food accessible to the underprivileged population. We must get onboard with this idea and change our food consumption patterns. Making smart choices about we do with the food left on our plates is not only a good deed, but also a necessity now.
1.3% of the world’s population is hungry. That’s roughly 805 million people who go undernourished on a daily basis, consuming less than the recommended 2,100 calories a day. If your plate can help save even one person from become a part of these 805 million, step up and do it. Every plate counts.
