The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride – Talking Mental Health, Motorcycles and More

Launched in 2012, the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is no ordinary gathering. Every year on September 29, thousands of motorcycle lovers gather in different cities to raise funds and awareness about men’s mental health and prostate cancer. It is a global classic styled motorcycle event where every participant is supposed to dress classy and formal. This year the event took place in Lahore as well. The registration for the event opened on August 1, with many people registering their rides within the week. The event had an array of amazing prizes and rewards and all the money collected went to charity.
The event is officially sponsored by the Movember Foundation, which works for men’s health and provides support to men who cannot afford treatment. The aim for 2019 was to collect $7m and so far $5m plus have already been gathered. Pakistan has actively participated in the event with Karachi donating the largest amount, Lahore at number two, and Islamabad at number three.
The founder of The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, Mark Hawwa, came up with this idea in Sydney Australia. Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way of connecting niche motorcycle enthusiasts and communities while raising funds to support the men in our lives. Such causes are the need of the hour especially in countries like Pakistan. Men’s health is a largely ignored topic here, which is quite harmful for the sustainability of the community, to say the least. It is high time we started focusing on this issue and helping the men in any way that we can.
Such initiatives are a great way to raise funds, have a good time, and come together to work for something greater than each of us.
