The Mesmerizing Waheed Murad
Let’s go back to 1964. The film industry has found a new actor. You have heard a lot about him but it’s your first time watching his film. You enter the cinema hall where people are already chatting about the new handsome hero of the film. You take your seat. The film starts. It hasn’t even been twenty minutes into the film and you are already mesmerized by the main lead – Mr. Waheed Murad.
Waheed Murad was born on October 2, 1938 in Sialkot. He started acting when he was only 21 years old with Saathi being his first ever film. He got immediate success as an actor and as he ventured into the director role, Waheed Murad changed the film industry. He gave it the boom that was needed to get the industry to the next level. By the end of his career, he had acted in 125 feature films and had earned 32 film awards.

Not only was he a fan of acting and arts in general, Waheed Murad was a very intelligent young man who knew how to work around the politics and the corruption in the industry. His whole ideology revolved around making great content whether it was as an actor, producer, director, or writer. A humble soul, Waheed Murad was exactly the person we needed at the time. His title, ‘The Chocolate Hero’ is still embedded in the hearts of Pakistani movie lovers. He ruled the box office for more than a decade and then quietly slipped out. Waheed Murads sad demise in Lahore came as a shock to many of his fans and the industry fellows.
Today, we thank a great artist for taking over the Pakistani film industry and showing all of us that passion and hard work truly are rewarding.
