The names of the finalists for Lexus Design Awards by Toyota are out and Aqsa Jamal is on the list!

Lexus has announced the long awaited list of the six finalists for the 2020 Lexus Design Award and one of the names is Aqsa Jamal. She is an Industrial Design graduate from the National University of Science and Technology. Aqsa is the only Pakistani to be selected for this award. She also happens to be the first Pakistani who reached the final stage of the Lexus Design Award.
Aqsa’s project focuses on enabling the visually impaired citizens of Pakistan. Her prestigious sense of design allowed her to come up with the project that is also a connection between people and products. She is also a strong believer in the idea that improving this connection would allow innovators to produce better products. Her thought process is unlike many in the industry right now because she always looks at the bigger picture. She will be able to bring a social innovation and change because her project is about designing a sewing machine for blind people. This will give the visually impaired a chance to earn money and have a sustainable source of income. The economic independence will also allow them to improve their lives.
The next step for the finalists is to enroll in a prominent mentorship program under well-known leaders and designers. They will also get a chance to receive funding of up to twenty-five thousand US dollars. This money will go towards working on their projects and making the products. The theme of this year Lexus Awards Session is consciousness and the environment with regards to technological impact and advancement. We’re hoping to see some amazing products in the final show casing which will be held during the Milan Design Week.
