The Silent Savior – Abdul Sattar Edhi

In every nation, there comes a great man who saves the people of that nation. For Pakistan, this man was Abdul Sattar Edhi. A name that is spoken with the utmost respect, Mr. Edhi was truly a silent savior. The whole Pakistani nation remembers him on 28th February 2020 which marks his 89th birthday. Mr. Edhi was a man who did everything to give back to the society and to help the neediest. He was a philanthropist, ascetic, and humanitarian who founded the Edhi Foundation. This foundation has the world’s largest volunteer ambulance network. Apart from this, it also has various homeless shelters, animal shelters, rehab centers, and orphanages across Pakistan.
Mr. Edhi was a very humble person. Even though he had the support of many powerful and rich people, he never took anything for himself. Whatever he got in donations was distributed in his welfare organizations. The Angel of Mercy, as he is known now, is famous because of his selfless acts in the services of the people who cannot fend for themselves. He never discriminated on the basis of religion, race, color, or sect. In a nation that is divided by these small differences, Mr. Edhi tried to bring everyone together and remove the misunderstandings between the people.
Mr. Edhi passed away on July 8, 2016, from kidney failure. However, his son, Faisal Edhi, continues his work and legacy. On the occasion of his birthday, many celebrities came forward and donated to the Edhi foundation. The man may have left the Earth but his spirit lives on in all the shelters and foundations he has laid for the helpless. Mr. Edhi is truly a man who has gone but will never be forgotten.
