If you’re a Pakistani and you’re on instagram, you’ve probably been following the bone tickling instagram account Swineryy and her half a dozen or so recurring character videos. If no, then…why? IT’S TIME TO BINGE!
Run by a young woman who’s been able to keep her identity anonymous since starting the account, swineryy began with an animoji video of a pig asking “y m haram” and has since then gained 150k followers from Pakistan and now, even India!
As for me, I’ve been following “The Swineryy Universe” for quite some time and whenever there’s a new video I make a run for my earphones and take the time to obsessively watch whatever shenanigans she’s thought up this time, consequently ending up on the floor and laughing my heart out. And then I share them with everyone I know and the cycle repeats.
The beauty of swineryy is that in a country where comedy is limited to political commentary on tv or to mind numbing dramas with covertly sexual humor, swineryy is perfectly Pakistani and hilariously relatable even though it’s completely fictional. The nosy, judgmental Lina Auntie who can’t help but stick her nose in “Shazias Dottuhs” business, the adorable “miss miss” Koala bear who’s clearly having some issues at home (ahem), the blue molvi saab who cant help but sing in his nasal voice and the bitter alien who swears left right and center are some of my favorites; swineryy is unapologetically originial!
She’s also the funniest person I know and that’s because of a couple of reasons. Because she’s anonymous, I feel like swineryy is someone I know. It’s why since she’s started doing paid campaigns I never feel like I’m being sold something, content marketers could really learn a thing or two from her on how to sell things to people without actually making a sales pitch. Another reason is that swineryy is as real life as it gets. She regularly posts instagram stories about what she’s up to and you can see that she’s a young Pakistani just like the rest of us – except that she created 10 different personalities just by changing her voice but oh well. You can also feel that she genuinely enjoys what she does and so you think you’re in on an inside joke with almost 150k more people. The cherry on the cake for me though is that swineryy is all the things I love being: a bold young woman who says what she feels like saying without having to censor herself or making things more palatable for everyone.
So if you need an instant pick-me-up or are looking for a rabbit hole to jump into because God knows our current political climate (and actual climate) requires it then Swineryy is where it’s at.
Basically, whoever said women can’t be funny must be rolling in his grave right now.
