Even the smallest of acts of harassment like winking or continuously staring at women have been taken into account.
Keep your eyes in perfect control, because even if you do it by mistake, it is still offensive in the eyes of law and punishable as well.
No more ‘tujhe dekha to ye jana sanam’
Let’s talk about what the act suggests and how it works.
The inquiry committee is set up consisting of three members. At least one of the member of the committee will be a woman.
The inquiry committee tells the accused to write a statement of defense within seven days from the day he was charged. If he doesn’t, then he is punished. And if he does, then the incident is further investigated.
Now about the punishments. What if the accused is found guilty?
The penalties for the accused if found guilty includes
- Cancel or postpone his promotions or increments
- Suspend him for a certain period of time
- Pay a compensation to the complainant from his pay or any other source.
But these are just minor punishments. In severe cases, the accused may be:
- Reduced to a lower post or stage
- Forced to retire
- Removed from the service
- Part of the fine will be given as compensation to the complainant.
Harassers, be afraid. Be very, very afraid. There is no escape for you now.
