A Trump-Erdogan Love Story
No re-drawing of international borders, no changing of global alliances except one, and no emergence of new powers except those who were already in play. The week spelled a monumental shift for Syrian Kurds and the nation of Turkey. Ceasefires will be observed, authorities and boundary lines will be recognized and Kurds will get a new guarantor; Russia. This fairytale conclusion to a gruesome tragedy has resulted in not much global unrest. But the pundits and the powers that be, signal a broken heart in the wake of this conclusion. The origin of these shattered illusion of power seems to be Washington, where a thousand big Macs cried with utter misery because of neglect.
Oh well, at least the casualties in Washington are abstract, even if they are Trump’s hurt feelings and neglected cheeseburgers. The president of the free and the brave has not retaliated yet, which means no one has simplified and summarized what has happened for him. I jest, I jest. Dear Immigration officer looking at this blog in the future, I did not mean this at all! Please give me a visa, I have no dignity. I wrote this for cheap laughs. Oh well! I only feel for President Trump, the third wheel in this international relationship.
Kurds probably are like: Friendship over with Trump, now Putin is my best friend.
Lives were at stake, and President Trump was confident that his deep bond of love and respect with President Erdogan was strong enough to weather this situation. They were both young and in love once. They shared the Syrian oil and refugee resources with great joy. But you have to remember Mr. Trump! Love needs attention as well. You don’t neglect and then force authority over the one you love. Sad! Now Turkey has Putin as well as what it wanted in the first place. The international news is calling these two leaders the epitome of strong diplomacy while calling you a loser. Erdogan got a buffer zone and a bite out of Syria. Putin got to be the new sherriff of the Middle East. You got a three-year wait out of the deal. Again, Sad!
I feel for you Mr. Trump, I do! But Turkey is a strong independent woman. She doesn’t need the Syrian oil reserves which you took great pains to secure rather than talk to Erdogan first. Please, reevaluate your life and your policy. Then maybe, she’ll give you another chance. Otherwise, Putin may not have her home by 11. And that’s the tea.
