Aik Thanda Tarbooz Ho Aur Lahore Ki Naher!

Ramadan and summers come hand in hand in Pakistan every year. The sun rises well to the occasion and welcomes Ramadan to the best of its abilities. This year too, it is as merciless as it was in the past. The temperature hits 44 degree here in Lahore and God, is it hot. The everyday routine has almost come to a halt with local hawker and shopkeepers barely making it through every day. The heat wave has already killed almost 66 people in Karachi and now it is out for blood in other cities. The best solution to avoid the wrath of sun is to stay at home in our fully air conditioned houses and sleep through our fast. Unfortunately, not all of us have these kind of luxuries in our lives. But hey! Survival is the key here. In Pakistan, we have got a jugaad for everything that bugs us. Let’s walk you through some of the mightiest blessings in summers that help us beat the heat.
Sugar, ice and everything nice is the deadliest combination in this season. Our favourite inexpensive treats like gola ganda. kulfi, ice cream, falooda will make you forget about your melting epidermis. Fruits are also an amazing way to fight your way through this time of the year. In fact, fruits are the best part of this season. And yes, we do have our favourite. It’s the enormous, gigantic, red and extremely delightful, one and only ‘watermelon’. Keep it as a staple under your bed, at your workplace or even take it to your sleep. It is your best friend for the rest of the season. We’ll also let you in on our secret to best enjoy it. You see, to send your taste buds for a hike at the Himalayas, the watermelon has to be chilled. You take lots and lots of ice and let your fruit stay in its bed of ice. Then you eat it where you don’t exactly have sweat dripping off of your face. That’ll be our breezy naher. No we’re not joking and it is so not funny. A little funny maybe… Okay who are we kidding, the place is not exactly in the best shape but it is still a go to place to catch all the breeze and sudden gusts of wind. Go ahead, laugh it off but do try it, you’ll be pretty amazed with the post visit appeasement.
Happy Summer y’all!
